We're nearly there!

So this week we are wrapping up the project. What an experience it has been. We still have to add a few tweaks to the music video as well as fix possibly include the name of the album on the digipack. The website is practically done we just need to include the video in there. We are happy with how the project came out. Obviously, there's always room for improvement and if Sabrina and I had more time we would fix these minor details.

The project as a whole was a huge task. After this, I don't think I'll be able to listen "All Along the Watchtower" for a while. It's been on replay in my head since this project started. For the project, it would have come out so much better if we had more time, but you know that's something we had to handle from the beginning. Having Spring Break in the middle of the project also threw us off a bit because I was on a cruise on a different continent with minimal internet access, but we worked with what we had.

The band, Electric Gypsies, was awesome to work with. The gave us a lot of freedom with their image and were very time flexible. They also recorded their song for us, something they had never done before, and it came out great. I commend them for that. They are a great group of guys and extremely funny. I am glad we got to work with this team.

My partner Sabrina was also amazing. I don't think this project would have come out even nearly the same without. She worked extremely hard and diligently. I am very happy to call her one of my best friends.

Obviously like any other project, we ran into some problems, but we were able to work through them and present Cambridge with something we are proud of.  The next blog post will be the project, so stay tuned!

So much work

So as you all know sabrina and I decided on a final cover for the digipack. We decided on this cover as we thought that the black created a more modern look. The lines were really cool and it gave texture but it was too much. However, the lines are still incorporated in this cover and they are visually pleasing.

Now we have here the back of the digipack which can be seen below. For this area we wanted to have something cool and not just a plain black cover. We also wanted to demonstrate each band members individuality in the band, so we decided to place their signatures. Also as you have begun to notice, we have used a clear platic case to give the digipack a more realistic effect.

To emphasize the chosen colors, we created one of the sides red. In here, we added the basic information and conventions of a digipack. Included are the member's name and role and the songs that are found in the CD. Since the song that the band will be playing is a cover of "All Along The Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix, we decided that this album will be a cover of Hendrix's most famous songs. Therefore, all the songs listed are Hendrix's. We also included the website, so fans buying the album will have access to more information about the band.

Lastly, we created the side where the CD is placed. As of now, we have 3 different choices. The first choice is a very simple white background with a black CD. The CD has a quote from Jimi Hendrix, which is displayed on all the cover of his CDs.  The second choice is for the CD to have the same lines found in the cover. This way it creates some cohesiveness and creates a more "fun" design. The third choice (which is the one we are leaning towards) is to use the same style of lines but it has some red. By doing so, it ties the red colors together.

We haven't decided which one we want yet, but we are on the right track.

Getting Started on the website

So, we have decided to start the website for our project. For the this component we will be using Wix because it is very user friendly and completely free of charge at least for what we want to produce. For the website, we want to make it computer and mobile friendly because many people now access the internet via their smartphones. Also for the website we have decided to use the same colors and concept of the digipack, so they look cohesive. We have decided to stick with the color scheme red, white, and black.  We also want to keep many of the conventions of a typical band website the same, for example, tour dates, music releases, social media links, etc.

Here are few screenshots of what we have so far.

I really like how the website is coming along. It looks very cohesive.

Also, we decided on the cover for the digipack and I really love it!

Creating Our Digipak

So Sabrina and I decided to start creating our digipack. For the digipack, we wanted to include the color scheme of the original logo they gave us which was red, white, and black. We first began to work on the cover. To do so we decided to work on the cover part of our digipack.  For this we decided to use the application Pages. Below are a few of the covers we created.

We made a few designs using a similar scheme, but different layouts. We haven't decided which one we are going to use yet. We wanted to go for a modern, sleek look.

To create the image of the five band member we used this app called Magic Eraser to make the images PNG. The app is super convenient and allows you to use your finger to draw and outline the area you want to be invisible. To connect the images we used Pages.

Well, we have some progress! Now we have to decide which cover we want exactly.

Film Time

Today we met up with the band and filmed a few clips with the band at Markham Park. We had them bring their instruments and play the song a few times while we recorded the performance. We made sure to get various angle and shots to have a variety. We also got a some video of the band being themselves to include in the music video. Here are a few pictures of today.

Now we have to look through the footsge and see how we can match it to the audio. Hopefully everything turns out well.
